Black Moon Lilith: Lunar Apogee

Black Moon Lilith is the lunar apogee, the Moon’s furthest orbital point from Earth.

The distance to the Moon from Earth constantly varies.

In its elliptical revolution around the Earth, the Moon has a point closest to Earth (the perigee, about 356,000 kilometers from Earth) and a point farthest from Earth (the apogee, about 406,000 kilometers).

This perigee-apogee axis is not fixed but moves constantly.  At a rate of 40 degrees each year, it takes about 3232 days, or about eight years and just over ten months, for the perigee-apogee axis to make a complete revolution through the Zodiac.

The perigee end of this axis is Selene, or White Moon.  During the Moon's closest orbital point from Earth, the Moon speed increases and it's watery influences are at their strongest.

The apogee end of this axis is Lilith, or Black Moon.  During apogee, the Moon slows on its elliptical journey around Earth and its watery influences are at their weakest.

Lilith is a point in space. Like the ascendant in a birth chart, Lilith doesn’t have a physical body but is mathematically calculated.  Even without mass or a body, these key points act on us.   The Sun and the Moon will always have more influence in the birth chart, but Lilith reveals another layer of our character.

Black Moon Lilith represents our primal side.

She expresses that which is unique and distinctive, idiosyncratic, uncontrollable, feminine and vital.  Black Moon Lilith is related to instincts and by nature is powerfully intuitive. She represents the creative energy that unites sex and spirituality.  She influences our sex life, thoughts on home and family and our relationships with our significant others.
